One of the most unexpected lessons I learned after starting triathlon was the importance of rest.

Until then, I had always believed that, whether at work or in anything else, I had to give it my all. I thought there was no time to rest, that resting was a waste of time. I truly believed that what mattered most was to keep moving nonstop.

But through triathlon, I realized something.

The human body and mind don’t perform at their best by constantly pushing without rest.

The older we get, the longer recovery takes. Yet ironically, the more experience and responsibility people gain in their careers, the more they tend to neglect rest. Those in positions where they must make important decisions are exactly the ones who truly need proper rest.

I was the same way.

Through training for and competing in triathlons, I noticed that after proper rest, my body became much stronger than before, with greater endurance as well. I came to realize that recovery itself is an opportunity for growth.

This doesn’t apply only to sports—it applies to work and daily life too. By resting, we reset ourselves and can perform at a higher level. Once I realized this, I began to intentionally make time to rest.

Triathlon offers countless insights into how to live life better.
