Science-based spiritual endurance for a healed body, heart, and life.
For more than two decades, I have lived at the intersection of science, surgery, endurance, and faith. I am a surgeon, a scientist, a triathlete, and a follower of Jesus Christ. My life’s work has been devoted to healing the most fragile hearts — the hearts of children — while exploring the science that helps us understand how healing happens.
A Beginning Rooted in Curiosity and Calling
My journey began in Japan, where I trained rigorously in cardiac surgery and discovered a passion for scientific discovery. Those early years shaped not only my surgical skill but also my desire to understand the deeper mechanisms of healing and regeneration.
It was also in Japan that I became a Christian. In a country where the Christian population is small, my faith grew quietly but profoundly. Later, after moving to the United States as a postdoctoral fellow, I encountered a more practical, living expression of faith — one that reshaped my heart, broadened my understanding of God, and transformed my spiritual life.
The Sacred Weight of a Child’s Heart
After completing my research fellowship, I pursued specialized training in pediatric cardiac surgery. These were intense, defining years — a time when I learned not only the precision of surgical technique but also the spiritual responsibility of holding a child’s heart, and a family’s hope, in my hands.
Eventually, I became an attending pediatric cardiac surgeon and established my own regenerative medicine laboratory. Research opened new doors: the ability to ask deeper questions, explore new technologies, and contribute to our scientific understanding of what drives human healing and resilience.
Over time, I became a Professor of Surgery, continued my research and I am working to advance global knowledge in cardiac health and regenerative medicine.
The Unexpected Turning Point: Endurance
Yet one of the most transformative chapters of my life began far outside the operating room and laboratory — when I started training for a triathlon.
Swimming: The First Step
Though I had always exercised, I had never trained seriously. In my 50s, I suddenly took up swimming. I learned from YouTube videos and struggled through my first 25 meters. Slowly, stroke by stroke, I improved. Eventually, I fell in love with the rhythm and peace of the water.
Cycling: A New Frontier
Then came cycling — introduced to me almost by accident. I bought a road bike without knowing a thing about gears or saddle height. I simply started riding. I fell. I even had a concussion. But I kept going. My rides became longer, more challenging, more meaningful.
Running: The Impossible Becomes Possible
For decades, a knee injury from college made running nearly impossible. Even 1–2 km left me in pain. But as I grew stronger through swimming and cycling, a question emerged: Could I run again?
This simple question opened the door to triathlon.
A Coach Who Saw What I Couldn’t
Managing three sports alone quickly became overwhelming, so I reached out to the first coach I found online — Melissa. From just GPS files and occasional messages, she somehow understood exactly what my body needed. With her guidance, real progress began.
Transformation — Inside and Out
Triathlon revealed abilities I never knew I had. It reshaped my health, my mindset, and my spirit. Work stress, physical discomfort, and mental fatigue began to fade. In their place emerged renewed energy, clarity, and purpose.
Two years later, by God’s grace, I completed an Ironman.
Through that journey, God taught me the deeper meaning of discipline, suffering, perseverance, and purpose. Endurance became more than a sport — it became a spiritual revelation.
Faith: The Anchor of It All
My faith strengthened through Scripture has become the foundation of everything I do.
It guides my work as a surgeon.
It shapes my research.
It fuels my training.
It inspires my writing.
It directs my future.
Building Something New
Today, I am creating a faith-driven, science-based platform dedicated to helping people become stronger — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I teach the principles of endurance I learned in surgery, research, and triathlon.
I share biblical truths that have carried me through every season of life.
I draw from the most advanced scientific understanding of the heart, the brain, and human resilience.
My mission is simple:
To help people discover the power of spiritual endurance so they can live with purpose, strength, and unshakeable faith.
If you are seeking deeper meaning, stronger faith, or renewed purpose, I invite you to join me.
Together, we will build lives anchored in truth, strengthened through adversity, and overflowing with the endurance that God designed us to carry.
